The honeymoon phase inevitably fades and the things that you once found endearing or cute start to step on that last nerve. It happens. To all of us. It’s the reality of relationships. It is usually at this point, you and/or your partner might start wondering if you are really the match you felt you were. You replay moments and conversations, look at old photos or texts, reflect on the bliss and passion you once had and feel has somehow slipped away.
The grass on the other side of social media starts to look pretty fucking green. This is when relationships fall apart. You blame your partner for your unhappiness and look outside for fulfillment, or better yet, online. Seeking fulfillment outside your relationship can come in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is the most obvious. But sometimes people rekindle an old friendship, invest in work, and binge on TV or the internet, or abusive substances.
The solution to this dilemma however, won’t be found in distractions or outside your relationship. It lies within it. Trust in each other. Communicate. Be honest. And never stop dating. The truth is you have to work at a relationship day in and day out. It takes time, effort, and energy. Happily ever after is earned not a given.
